Treatment of musculoskeletal pain using a holistic approach focused on mind and body.
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
Musculoskeletal conditions can come from a variety of causes, but generally lead to symptoms such as:
- pain
- dysfunction
- restriction of movement
- fatigue and general low mood
Common causes of muscular dysfunction and pain are trauma, overload or misuse of muscles arising from occupational or recreational activities.

As a myotherapist, I use a range of assessment and treatment techniques to address the body holistically, restore and maintain the integrity of the musculoskeletal system.
Techniques include:
- cupping
- dry needling
- electro-dry needling
- TENS machine
- deep tissue massage
- soft tissue massage
- myofascial release techniques
- muscular energy techniques
- joint mobilizations
- trigger point therapy
- exercise prescription
- hot/cold therapies
‘Alongside my physical assessment of the body, I often discuss with my patients lifestyle factors such as;
diet, stress, nutrition, exercise and forming of habits (both good and bad!) and relate them to their bodies current state.
I believe using this holistic approach addresses the patient as an individual and allows me to tailor make a treatment program specific to their wants and needs whilst also considering their time, physical and financial constraints.’

Work smarter not harder. Do you know it takes 2 to 3 weeks of resistance based exercise (weights) for muscle strength to increase. So training 2 to 3 times a week for 2 to 3 weeks you will start to feel stronger! At 6 - 12 weeks you will see physical change in tone or growth of your muscles. So keep motivated, the first month of training matters! Often when we don't see muscle growth, we can lose motivation. Push passed the first month!

Desk posture! A common cause of back and neck pain that can be easily managed. Another problem with prolonged time spent at a desk, is sitting. Sitting for 7+ hours for a majority of a working week can cause muscle, joint and cardiovascular deconditioning. Standing desks are also an option!! Consult your myotherapist to discuss desk health.

The Affinity Myotherapy Logo: The connection between the tree, muscles & the brain. The tree and brain symbolises the important role being outside and socialising has on brain health. Many conditions becoming more prevalent in modern western society can largely be attributed to 'perfection of the indoors', 'swapping face time for screen time' and cutting down our time spent physically moving outdoors. The brain needs stimulation, social interaction and mapping practise by being outside and familiarising old areas or mapping new ones. The tree is the spine of the body acting as the connecter between the mind and body. The brain and nervous system are like branches, the tiny nerves that supply muscles and organs, like leaves. Leaves fall in autumn and regrow in spring, or wilt and die without proper nutrients or care. Some trees don't lose foliage, but withstand their harsher external environment. This reflects my holistic health beliefs. The brain and its internal beliefs and wants influences the body, and the body and external environment impacts the brain. We can withstand unfavourable external environments, with the right internal beliefs, and muscle cells can regenerate and become strong under the right care. My aim is to help everyone find their own unique health protective activities they find enjoyable, in order for them to achieve and maintain wellbeing

Winter time seems to encourage a good sleep in! However, if you wake up sore or need to start your day early with energy, think about your sleep habits. - cut screen time at least 30mins before bed; 'blue light' produced from screens mimics the same brain neurone activity that occurs when we are awake. - find a good sleep posture! Your mattress needs to support your back (not too rigid or soft) and your pillow needs to be suited to your preferred sleeping position to properly support you neck and shoulders. For special considerations for sleep positions (low back pain, hip pain, pregnancy) consult your myo!
