FOOD.... sometimes this can be one big headache for parents! Some children are fussy, some won't eat enough, others want too much, some children only want junk while others will only eat fruit!! Setting healthy, nutritional habits is one of the most important roles for both parents and educators. I have just recently completed a munch and move course which has inspired me to help parents with ideas on healthy lunch boxes for preschool and daycare aged children! In the photos below I will list what each lunch box contains and at what meal time it is for! Food for kids should be fun, different and HEALTHY!! Try to stay away from pre-packaged snacks! Of course there is nothing wrong with a good old sandwich, an apple, some carrots sticks and a treat! But to keep kids interested and getting them to try new foods can be great too. I recommend having different containers for different meal times if possible, label them so that the child or person preparing the meal knows what to eat and when. Make sure your child always has access to water, sometimes milk is a nice alternative as well, but please steer away from juice and cordial.. that's just a whole lot of sugar that they don't need!! It is proven that children can sometimes need to taste something 10-15 times before they will actually like it! So just because they turn their nose up the first time... keep on offering it! And try to put something different in their lunch box each week.. I know I wouldn't want to eat the same thing every day.... VARIETY VARIETY VARIETY!! I hope this helps people. Please feel free to share this post on other pages and/or add some of your own healthy lunch box ideas or photos! One important thing to remember is that in centres children cannot graze all day, they have to learn proper meal times. So make sure that each meal is substantial enough to get them through to the next one!! And over packing food can overwhelm children, cause them to be even more fussy, plus makes a lot of waste!

I HAVE A QUESTION!!! What do you ask your children about their day?? When my oldest son (now 12 and in high school) was in preschool, I would always ask him "how was your day? What did you do?" His response was always.. "Good, nothing!" Or "Hot, not much!" End of conversation 😕 I brought this up with his preschool teacher at the time.. the beautiful Ms McKlusky! And she told me that I was doing it all wrong!! And boy was she right!! She taught me to ask specific questions! Narrow it down! In his mind he had answered my question.. so instead I started asking him what book did you read today? Which colours did you paint with? What are the names of the kids you played with? All of a sudden conversations between me and my little human became extended and fun and funny! He opened up to me, because I was taking more of an interest! To this day, when I pick my kids up from school, I ask each of them at least 3 specific questions, different every day and I love listening to their answer! I've also taken to asking them what the worst part of their day was? Sometimes they say it was all great! Sometimes my son will tell me that girls were annoying him, which leads to a conversation. Or my daughter might tell me that she got laughed at coz she spelt something wrong, and I will know that she needs a hug! So I want to know.... WHAT DO YOU ASK YOR KIDS?? If you have special questions for you kids, please comment them below so that other parents can start using them too 👌 Enjoy your conversations with your little humans 😊
