The water connection… After spending many months growing and developing in their watery womb environment, it seems only natural for a baby to continue a joyful connection in and around water after they are born. Utilising the comfort and nurturing association of water, our program provides an important bridge between the womb and early reconnections into the water. We know a relaxed and enjoyable transition to the pool will assist children to adapt harmoniously during their early development, enhancing physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. http://www.waterbabies.com.au

Do you recognise the building on the photo below? We opened our Oceanic Waterbabies Hydrotherapy Centre in Success four years ago and today we are sharing our story about its creation. "Bob The Builder" – Oceanic Waterbabies’ dream comes true Kelly Rae and her husband Bob dreamt for years about creating beautiful and environment friendly Oceanic Waterbabies (OWB) pools and office that would provide a wonderful experience not only for the swimming babies and their parents, but also for all the OWB employees. In 2011 the building project of the Oceanic Waterbabies Success Centre began and Bob was in charge and engaged in it with his whole heart, body and mind. Kelly and Bob are both highly environmentally aware people and have created their new OWB centre with the least possible impact on the nature. They have approached the development very carefully and responsibly. - Before clearing the land they have trapped and re-located native marsupials and reptiles. - Most of the grass trees and native plants have been transplanted. They kept as much original vegetation as possible. --- The trees that needed to be cut down were milled for timber, firewood and mulch, to maximise usage with minimum waste. OWB Success Centre’s structure and energy use is extremely environmentally friendly: - 2 rainwater tanks (350,000 & 75,000 litres) recycle water through pools, toilets, gardens and fire fighting on the property (bush). - Roof design can harvest 450,000 litres per year - Main building roof is designed for maximum solar gain, using solar pool heating for both pools in summer and part of autumn and spring. - Extensive insulation that makes OWB environment extremely comfortable and pleasant all year round with In-Floor Water Heating pool deck that is sacrificial for spectator comfort only (shoes off), change rooms, office and seminar room. It provides warmth for clients and staff and reduces cleaning costs. In Summer Heat pumps reverse to chill and provide air conditioning for the office and seminar room. Change rooms remain comfortable for summer without additional cooling. There are no fans, air conditioners or dehumidifiers needed because of the natural ventilation created through combination of roof design and interaction with hot and cold air. A huge new environmentally friendly solar construction has just been added to OWB Centre for maximum winter gain: - 20 Kw solar system on ground mount racking system on the southern side of the building and - 20 KW = 88 solar panels on 2x16m solar racking array and rear roof This is the first ground mount solar system on a commercial property in the Cockburn according to the City of Cockburn planning department. As you can see entering the OWB in Success is not just a wonderful, life enhancing time for the swimming babies, parents and OWB team, it is also about experiencing an environment that Kelly and Bob hope to inspire by example, and demonstrate environmental initiatives that we can all achieve that make our world a cleaner, healthier and happy place to live in. We are very excited to share information with all mums out there about this wonderful and much needed online course, SELF CARE FOR BUSY MOTHERS, created by Mary Choo. Kelly Rae came to Mary as a mum with her young son, some 23 years ago. Her son had a fear of flying and Kelly was looking for a natural way to remedy his fear as they were planning to fly overseas for a holiday. Her path led her to Kinesiologist, Mary Choo. Mary's wealth of knowledge and her approach was wonderful and resulted in Kelly’s son completely overcoming his fear of flying in just a couple of sessions. Through the years Kelly herself had kinesiology sessions with Mary and also attended Mary’s workshops. The experience of both and the results were positive and lasting. Mary Choo is an Occupational Therapist, Kinesiologist and Registered Nurse who for 25 years has been teaching people how to create the changes that they long for in their lives. Also a Busy mother and now a Busy grandmother her latest course uses Mindfulness and Mindful Self compassion exercises to help Busy Mums make time to care for THEMSELVES so they can be the loving mum to their kids that they want to be. We are sharing this true story with all of you today, hoping it will help raise awareness and save more lives. In this case the story ends happily for Tom, thanks to his mum who is always keeping an eye on her boy, and because she made a life-saving decision to teach her son to swim from a very young age. Tom is now 3 years old and has been one of our Waterbabies since he was a few months old. He is one of the strongest swimmers in his class. Several weeks ago at the beginning of summer, Tom & his mum were catching tadpoles and frogs from their newly installed family swimming pool before they were to put chemicals in when suddenly Tom tumbled into the pool. He turned toward the edge of the pool, took a breath then sank as he was fully clothed, wearing also a nappy and gumboots. Imagine the weight of those wet clothes and gumboots! Tom then started kicking towards the edge of the pool, like he has learnt at his swimming lessons. His mum was there immediately and pulled him out of the pool. Tom was very upset and coughing but otherwise ok, and he happily went in the shower after the incident and put his head under. He was also his usual confident self at the next swimming lesson, with no fear in the water at all. Tom’s mum, Emma said: ‘I'm happy to share Tom's story to help other parents. I can't believe how quickly and silently Tom slipped into the water! Luckily he knew what to do, so when I made it to him he was ok. It scared me tremendously! He was more concerned about his gumboots sinking to the bottom of the pool than anything else! Thank goodness for the Waterbabies! It wouldn’t have ended so well otherwise.’ Dear parents and grandparents, please read our previous post Top Ten Tips for Water Safety by Kelly Rae and share it among your friends and family, it may help prevent an unnecessary tragedy. http://www.waterbabies.com.au

TOP TEN TIPS FOR WATER SAFETY AND FUN THIS SUMMER With summer approaching, beaches and pools become magnets for our leisure time, highlighting the need for safety and fun, especially for children. According to Kelly Rae, World Infant Aquatic expert and founder of Oceanic Waterbabies in Perth, “Summer is a time when thousands of families get to enjoy the water together, healthy active bonding time for parents and children, but also it is a time of potential dangers.” In 2014/2015, according to the RLSSA, 26 children between 0-4yrs drowned in Australia, a 30% increase from the pervious year. This is 26 children too many. The joy of a day at the beach or the pool can so easily turn tragic, for many reasons, including lack of supervision, poor aquatic skills and unpredictable environmental conditions. But it doesn’t have to be this way. “The joys to be gained from engagement with water for parents and children are unquestionable, and can be safe. There are a number of basic rules for safety around water that we all should know” said Kelly Rae. Hot tips for water safety and fun this summer: 1. Constant, Constant, Constant Supervision - that means constant visual contact. 2. Secure - pool areas, ponds and other bodies of water – check fences, and gates, and remove items that can be used for climbing. 3. Empty paddle pools, buckets, sinks and troughs when not in use, put the loo lid down. 4. Know the environment - deep and shallow water, cold and warm water, rips, and hazards. 5. Swim together - parents can keep children safe, strengthen bonding and build trust by swimming together. 6. Learn to swim - choosing the right swim school can set your kids up for a lifetime of aquatic enjoyment. 7. Remember children learn through play - so keep it fun. 8. Know your own and your child’s swimming ability – to maximise enjoyment. 9. Swim often - to build confidence, develop skills and have FUN! 10. Learn CPR - precious life-saving skills. “Starting your child’s engagement in water from the earliest possible age will promote a love of water for life, and develop important skills and a healthy respect for the aquatic environment”, said Kelly Rae. Kelly Rae, “After 28 years of teaching parents to teach their babies to swim, I have witnessed the physical, emotional and social benefits to the children, and the positive flow on effects to their immediate families, extended families and greater community.” Oceanic Waterbabies, with venues in Perth and Busselton, specialises in teaching parents to teach their babies to swim, in a positive, joyful and nurturing environment.
