FISHING REPORT - 21/1/16 View this email in your browser The offshore season is in full swing now with the recent arrival of marlin and dolphinfish, plenty of both species are being landed offshore by both big and small boat anglers. Tom Hawley fished with Oceanhunter Sportsfishing during the week chasing the dollies and came up trumps on a good fish, the boys were out at the 60 fathom mark off Nth Head and had a mad session on these pelagics. Captain Mike Bamforth reports the fish were keen on taking surface lures and live baits with good no’s of this species being landed. Closer to shore some good fish are coming off the rocks this week with kingfish and salmon being most prolific taking live baits and big surface poppers. After the recent rains our beaches are starting to fire with whiting and flathead being targeted using beachworms and pilchards for bait. Sydney Harbour has cleared up now and plenty of live bait is available at local spots like Clontarf, Balmoral and Quarantine. Old Man’s Hat on the southern side of North Head is proving a popular venue for chasing big kings with some fish up to 12kg being landed with live yellowtail being a most successful bait in this zone.

KFNSW/BFSY JEWFISH DAY JAN 17 2016

Fish Outta Water Tackle World sponsored a jewfish day on Sydney Harbour today with nearly 40 participants from Kayak Fishing New South Wales and Big Fish Small Yaks, good weather and a good turnout was sure to result in a few fish being tagged for the Department Of Primary Industries Jewfish tagging Program. A dozen jewfish were caught as was plenty of Bi catch inc flathead, bream, flounder, trevally and tailor. A great day with plenty of anglers catching their first jewies from the yak. Great work guys we look forward to working with you in the next one....well done boys, big thanks to all admin from both sites

FISHING REPORT 7TH JANUARY 2016 This week’s conditions haven’t been the best to say the least but most fishermen don’t mind a good stir up as it gets the fish out looking for a feed. Prior to the rain some great fish were caught over the new year when the seas were much friendlier. Brad Kearns & Rod Phillips headed out to the fads offshore looking for mahi mahi and caught a cracker before the rains, Brad managed to land a 135cm fish whilst casting top water stick baits using 20lb gear, plenty of flying fish were sighted in the area and these are a terrific bait for our surface predators and a good sign that you are in the zone. These fish will be around while the warm water currents are off our coastline and this should be for a few months yet. Our estuaries are quite muddy at the moment but once the rain goes they will settle down again, with all of the freshwater sitting atop the salt remember to fish deep and use plenty of scents on your baits and lures. Narrabeen Lake has just been opened and this in turn will have all the fish making a dash for the mouth, casting big lures around this area will give you a great chance at catching the elusive lake mulloway as they feed on all the smaller baitfish running the gauntlet to the ocean. http://www.fishing.net.au/sydney-fishing-reports/fishing-report-7th-january-2016/
