Parents and the community are encouraged to participate in the school and, in particular, their child's learning. Acceptance and respect for all cultures is encouraged and the school is recognised for its friendship and tolerance.

Our Talented Sports Program provides a unique opportunity for students with a special aptitude for sporting activities. Students enrolled in the program are given the opportunity to excel in their particular sport within a curriculum framework that supports them in reaching their academic and sporting goals.

More information about this fantastic program at MSHS called AVID: AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID creates a shift in students’ expectations for themselves and then gives them the strategies they need to achieve these new expectations. These student success skills are explicitly taught to students through the WICOR model. Writing Inquiry Collaboration Organisation Reading AVID begins in year 7 at MSHS and takes students through to University and the workplace. It is designed to close the achievement gap, ensure all students have the option of going to university, and increase the chances for success in a global society. AVID helps students to develop a growth mindset by encouraging them to set goals for themselves and it allows students to realise that their goals and achievements can be attained through their own work and determination. AVID strategies give students an opportunity to reflect on their own learning. It is a program that encompasses all aspects of education and learning both at school and at home. We look forward to AVID expanding at MSHS in 2017 and need the communities support with the program in order for it to work effectively for our kids. It's all about OPPORTUNITIES :)

Yesterday we welcomed the incoming Year 7 students and their parents at Orientation Day. Next year's students hail from as far away as China, Venezuela, Colombia and France, and as close to home as Chifley, Malabar and La Perouse. Parents and students were really excited to hear about all the opportunities available through the UNSW partnership, our School Captains and Peer Support students made us proud, and it was great to see some familiar faces from Homework Club, music and drama in the mix!
