Wharncliffe's first cria for the season, an inky black girl. CCH Urban Maestro has advanced density, excellent crimp style and a beautiful handle. My girls have excellent blue-black-true-black colour, amongst other virtues. I'm looking forward to many more lovely cria from this boy.

Just arrived: charcoal yarn from a couple of girls who have become very roan, while maintaining softness of handle. Scrumptious. As ever, there's not very much of it...so be quick.

Post-shearing, just one of the girls looks as if she's getting ready to pop. She's ahead of the others by about 2 months. I hope she waits for a better day: today's been cold and blustery and tomorrow looks much the same. Can't wait for this one: a new combination of genetics. Fabulous Peruvian density over traditional Chilean blue-black..and those traditional girls can still pop out beauties.

Shearing on Sunday. It's a day most of us don't like: too much noise, too little help, and alpacas not entirely happy about it...but yay (!) the pleasure of seeing some fab fleeces coming off and the obvious enjoyment the alpacas have as they lie out and sunbake without their built-in duvets. They are SO hot on even a modestly warm day. (which, let's face it, is all we are getting here) Looking forward to seeing our annual visitors: be here by about 11 please!

I couldn't attend the Royal Hobart Show, but my animals were presented by friends, to whom I'm very grateful. We had good results from 5 animals and 3 fleeces in 7 classes. 5 Firsts in the halter classes, Fleeces got 2 firsts and a second and the 2 Anarchist Juniors won 3rd in Sires' Progeny. Wh. Vanya won Champion Senior Female and CCH Urban Maestro was awarded Res Ch Senior Male. He also took out Best Black Fleece and Best Black. I appreciate the generous comments received and look forward to seeing Maestro's first cria this summer.

Some of Wharncliffe's blacks will be at the Royal Hobart Show on Saturday, hopefully behaving and walking nicely. I get to play with the fleeces all day tomorrow. Nice!

It's happening! ...weather permitting...a group of black show alpacas will be at Salamanca Market on the 13th, on the lawns beside Site 184. Come and handfeed the girls and then explore fleece, infinity scarves, knee rugs and throws at the Alpaca South site.

Another lovely girl has gone off to a new home, the only black in a group of fawns/browns, to a farm well up into today's snow. Luckily she has great coverage, with warm pyjama legs to sit on, I'm sure she'll be fine with her lovely new owner.

A lovely couple of hours in the yards today, looking at fleeces and seeing how the babies are coming along. I feel as if I haven't seen them for weeks. My how you've grown!

Beautiful Evangeline, soft PR Noir and Ursula with the fluffy ears: enjoy your new home in NSW. I hate saying goodbye to favourites, but I know they'll be happy.

Vitamin D time for the Wharncliffe Blacks...and the babies don't like me any more. Little do they know, there'll be more coming in a month or so.
