Dear Alumni community, Re: The PAC Redevelopment – Aiming to Build in Term 1, 2017 As we approach the end of the year, I write to update you with the progress of the proposed Performing Arts Centre redevelopment. We’ve been working on this development project for the past 2 years and it’s a project that we have to raise the funds for ourselves. We’re now at the stage where the plans are in place, the PAC project has gone to tender and we’re working through the best possible option to hopefully begin the project in Term 1, 2017. The PAC redevelopment project will transform our old, tired space into a substantially bigger, modern, flexible and well-appointed teaching, learning and community space. It’s exciting and every student at our school, now and in the future, will benefit. Attached link below is the promotional flyer which outlines this important community effort we need to make to bring this project to life in Term 1, 2017. The flyer reminds us all of the importance of the contributing to the voluntary College Building Fund – every cent flows to the PAC redevelopment project, ensuring that we can begin over the holidays! At Buckley Park College, we aren’t a priority for Government funding for capital works, and we won’t be in the foreseeable future. This means we have to save and plan carefully to keep the momentum of facilities improvement happening. I’m committed to ensuring that our school is the very best place possible for our students in all ways: the PAC redevelopment is a vital project for our kids. We can now make a difference as a community, and relatively quickly. This is where your contributions to the Building Fund are so helpful. Please do read the Building Fund promotional flyer below and let’s work together to build our new PAC in Term 1, 2017. Yours sincerely, Nathan Chisholm Principal http://www.buckleyparkco.vic.edu.au/uploaded_files/media/pac_building_fund_family_promotion_november_2016.pdf

Bank Australia - We’re supporting school principals to access vital professio

Our Principal’s Focus on Learning In 2015, our Principal, Mr Chisholm was awarded a Professional Learning grant through the Victorian Association of State Secondary School Principals, and sponsored by Bank Australia. The award acknowledged the school-based innovations that Nathan and our team of teachers were delivering for our students and community. The award also acknowledged Nathan’s commitment to building a positive culture of wellbeing for Principals across Victoria. Recently, the professional association (VASSP) and the sponsor (Bank Australia) have both promoted this story in their various publications and we thought you’d like to see it too. This is a great story about our school and how learning-for-life is vital for us all.

Buckley Park College congratulates past student Callum Moore on his debut at the Tigers on the weekend. Moore, who played junior football at Aberfeldie and the Calder Cannons, was the Tigers’ first pick (No. 12 overall) in the AFL’s rookie draft late last year. The 193cm, 19-year-old was elevated from Richmond’s rookie list to the primary list today after producing some impressive performances in the Tigers’ VFL side at both ends of the ground. See the St Kilda team for Saturday afternoon's clash at the MCG He has shown some exciting traits with his speed, agility, leap, contested marking ability and fierce attack on the football. Moore is Richmond’s seventh AFL debutant this season, joining Nathan Broad, Jason Castagna, Adam Marcon, Oleg Markov, Daniel Rioli and Jayden Short.

Congratulations Alex Nikolaou the 2016 JDRF National Young Volunteer of the Year Award Winner Alex Nikolaou one of our Year 11 VCAL students is an advocate for people living with Type 1 diabetes. Alex himself a Type 1 diabetic, plans to get more involved and help everyone with Type 1 Diabetes one day live longer and healthier lives. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation- JDRF originated in Australia in 1982 as a volunteer-led organisation, and the passion and dedication of those who provide time, resources, and experience is still key to our growth and continued progress today. Volunteers are our heritage and heart of JDRF, and will remain a vital part of our journey towards a world without type 1 diabetes. The JDRF Volunteer Award program is intended to provide a means to formally recognise and thank volunteers for the time and effort that they dedicate to JDRF. We’re proud to announce the following winners of the 2016 JDRF Volunteer Recognition Awards. National Young Volunteer of the Year Award Winner Alex Nikolaou Alex, who has type 1 diabetes, is an active JDRF advocate in the federal seat of Maribyrnong. His local MP is Bill Shorten, Leader of the Opposition. In the lead up to the 2016 Federal election, Alex was keen to help JDRF to get the Australian Labor Party (ALP) to commit to a CGM policy, and he put the question to Shorten in a walkabout (above). This resulted in a few meetings, and undoubtedly went a long way to help secure an ALP election promise of $84 million. Alex went to the ALP policy announcement in Melbourne on 15 June, and even got a special mention from Shadow Health Minister, Catherine King. Buckley Park College congratulates Alex on this amazing award and we wish him great success in the journey towards a world without type 1 diabetes.
