GoldCtity Dental Centres 5 Tips for Tip Top Teeth! Did you know that 65% of Aussies haven’t seen a dentist in over two years and 25% of adults only brush their teeth once a day? Looking after your chompers should be a priority – it only takes five minutes a day to follow our 5 tips for tip top teeth! 1. To remove plaque and food debris from your teeth, brush morning and night. If you go to bed without brushing your teeth, the food sits there for a longer period of time which can cause cavities. 2. Limit your intake of sugars, regular consumption of things like soft drink and lollies is the number one cause of tooth decay. 3. Floss at least once a day, when we brush our teeth we miss the in between areas as the bristles of our tooth brush can’t reach between our teeth. 4. Drink plenty of water; this will help wash away food so it doesn’t sit on your teeth. Also, because our town water doesn’t contain any fluoride, it is also ideal that you use a fluoridated tooth paste. 5. Make dental appointments a priority, the dentist can help reverse cavities and pick up on issues you can’t see yourself – such as gum disease, oral cancer, early stages of decay and can prevent calculus build up.

WOW! Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substances in the human body? However, we 100% do not recommend using your pearly whites to open bottle caps! Although the enamel of our teeth is super strong, they can often chip, break and weaken due to multiple things. This includes loss of a tooth which causes more stress on the opposing teeth, trauma and general wear and tear and of course opening bottles with our teeth. We use our teeth to chew, to talk, to speak and to improve our appearance. So to keep them for as long as we can, GoldCity Dental Centre now offers same day dental crowns, bridges and onlays! For more information on same day crowns, phone our friendly team on (07) 4787 1269.

‘Fissures’ are grooves that are naturally on the biting surfaces of our teeth, mainly on our bicuspids and molars, but can also occasionally occur on canines and incisors. Depending on the anatomy of the tooth, the fissures can be rather deep which makes it hard for the bristles of our tooth brush to get in there. This can cause food and bacteria to get trapped in our fissure which allows plaque to sit there for a long period of time. The acidic properties then eat into the enamel of the tooth and causes decay. Fissure sealants are a preventative, pain-free and non-invasive treatment which involves the application of a tooth coloured, flowable material into the fissures which prevents food and plaque trap.

There are many ways in which our wisdom teeth can form. Some times they can come through vertically with no issues, and other times they can be impacted and unable to erupt due to their position in the jaw. Some symptoms of an impacted wisdom tooth can include bad breath, swollen gums, pain in the jaw and even swelling. It is also common that a certain percentage of people may develop less than 4 wisdom teeth, if at all. If you’re unsure of where your wisdom teeth are positioned, call the practice on (07) 4787 1269 to book a consultation and full mouth x-ray with one of our amazing Dentists!
