Australian Boys' Education are specialists in tutoring, support and extension for boys from K-12 in English, Humanities, Maths and Science across Sydney. Australian Boys' Education offers mobile tutoring in students' homes across the suburbs of Sydney and Coffs Harbour or based in our learning centre at West Pennant Hills, Sydney.

Many of our boys struggle with the mainstream school system because, when our entire history is considered, it is a relatively new way of approaching education. Our boys are actually wired to learn one on one or in small groups with a male role model as a teacher. Australian Boys' Education utilises techniques and programmes that are based on age old ways of teaching, taking into account the way boys' brains work, in order to help enhance what they learn at school and help them advance their skills and natural talents.

Tutoring is a fast growing industry because parents are beginning to understand that children prosper at school when their learning is assisted with a single coach or guide. Australian Boys' Education is aware of the power of this important component as it applies to boys in particular and consciously sets out to create individual learning programmes based on the way boys best learn and the most recent research into brain plasticity and neuro-science.

Research shows that boys learn visually and by practical experience and experimentation. Australian Boys' Education utilises a system in which 25 percent of the face time consists of demonstration and the use of visual stimulus, while 75 percent is guided practice with positive reinforcement. The programmes we create are designed to be positive experiences and make success a habit, so that this will have an effect on a boy's self esteem, attitude and performance at school.

Australian Boy's Education has a focus on literacy and numeracy and caters for all kinds of students from those who are looking to develop gifts in particular areas to those who need improvement. We tutor in any and all English subject based skills such as reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, analysis, essay writing and public speaking from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are also happy to work with boys learning to read prior to school entry. In mathematics and science we cater for students from K-12 in all required skills of the syllabus. We are skilled in teaching all humanities based subjects from primary all the way to HSC level. For those preparing for competitive admission to a selective school, we focus on extension activities and examination preparation, alongside building boys' confidence in performing under pressure.

The first step is to book us for a complimentary no-obligation assessment of your child's learning strengths and needs. We are happy to chat with you and give you advice without any obligation to book tutoring sessions. When you're ready to book sessions with us, our fees are as follows below.

Welcome back to Term 3. Hopefully the school holidays gave all our boys an opportunity to recuperate tired brain tissue and explore healthy risk taking in the outdoors. It's time to share with you some exciting new developments in the world of Australian Boys' Education. After some scepticism from both tutors and parents, we've been testing out what online tutoring might be like. We've been surprised and excited by the results. Online tutoring is really effective and extremely convenient for families. If you want to check out whether online tutoring might work for you, call John (0424 791 398). If you're sceptical also, we're happy to arrange a free session for you to see whether it might work for your child's learning needs.

Who said learning can't be fun as well as a little gross! One of our Year 5 students very much enjoyed discovering the disgusting truth about cheese and chocolate this term. This is a snippet of what he wrote based on his research: “Chocolate comes in many weird forms. There is dairy milk, white and dark, as well as Crunchie, Cherry Ripe, Mars Bars, Kit Kat and so on. But do you ever wonder what is in chocolate and how we make it? "It’s cocoa, you’re probably thinking, and that means cacao beans. Yes, but it’s cacao beans left to go rotten! Chocolate is milk, sugar and cacao beans that bugs have put bacteria on. "Bacteria combined with heat lets air into the beans and from that pulp comes out of the beans and the beans die. Therefore the chocolate flavour is let out of the cacao beans..." Science and literacy combine to create something interesting and evocative. It's so exciting to see real improvement across comprehension of texts, synthesis of information and creative expression. Well done to all of our students in their learning achievements during Term 1.

Greetings all. I will be in Sydney and working out of the Learning Centre for the second week of the school holidays, from Monday 18th April to Friday 22nd April. I’m available to work with students myself that week. You might like to book some sessions with me, especially if your child has had a break from tutoring this term, or if they have particular assessment tasks they are working on over the holidays. Perhaps there are some areas highlighted in parent teacher interviews or reports that need some strengthening. Sessions are available either in the Learning Centre at West Pennant Hills or at your home. I haven’t planned any particular cartooning workshops for these holidays, but if your child is keen to jump back into cartooning for a bit of holiday fun (which sneakily also improves their visual literacy and creative writing skills), I can arrange this also during that week. Rates for sessions in the school holidays are attached. For those who have been receiving tutoring this term, I’ll be in contact over the next few weeks to hear about how things have been going and if there’s any changes we need to make to the programs. Don’t hesitate to contact me directly to discuss your child’s progress. I hope you all get a chance to have a break during the school holidays and ANZAC long weekend. I was reminded what kind of learning boys respond really well to recently, when I was exploring some rock pools by the beach with my youngest son. I found a shell, picked it up, gave it a rinse and handed it to him. "Hold it to your ear," I said and I modeled the action. With a curious look he followed my instructions and held the opening of the shell to his ear. The reaction was instantaneous. It was such a precious expression of amazement. I stood and watched as he looked inside to see if he could find where the sound was coming from. He held it up to his ear again. I don't know how many times he repeated the process. He had discovered something unexpected, something magic about the world. He held onto that shell all the way back to our house. This is a simple depiction of the primal process of learning that boys are wired for. The wise one hints and models to the young apprentice and the apprentice opens the door himself to a new and exciting world. Every great hero story contains this pivotal relationship: Arthur and Merlin, Obiwan and Luke, Gandalf and Frodo, Dumbledore and Harry. This is the kind of relationship we create in our tutoring program at Australian Boys' Education. Any journey is tough, especially the academic one. We realise the power of the mentor in a boy's life, and that the journey is so much better when you've got someone on your side who knows the path.

Happy new year to all from Australian Boys’ Education. We hope the holidays were fun and restful for your kids. It seems, however, it’s time again to dust the sand off the text books and the laptops, shelve the X-Box, clean out the mould from the lunch boxes and point the chaps in the direction of the school gate. Therefore, it’s also time for tutoring to kick back into gear. If you are considering starting tutoring for your son this year, book a free learning assessment via the "Contact Us" button right here on Facebook, or call me directly on 0424 691 398.
