YEAR 7s RECEIVE GUARD OF HONOUR: Friday was a day that marked the complete high school journey at BBC, commencing with our Leaders' Induction Assembly where we honoured our Captains, Vice-Captains and Prefects for 2016 and unveiled this year's theme - Forge. Our Year 7 cohort then arrived to a spirited BBC reception led by our Seniors and Spirit Committee, with a guard of honour as the boys returned from their three-day camp. The young students were piped into the Middle School Precinct from Miskin Oval as they donned their BBC formal uniform for the first time. The beaming smiles of our youngest high school students only grew bigger as they were reminded of their 200 big brothers at BBC and the exciting journey ahead of them; that one day they will be the Seniors welcoming the newest members of the College.

BBC Pipe Sergeant Ben Morris recently travelled to New Zealand to further enhance his piping at the RNZPBA Summer School in Christchurch. Ben was awarded lead musician/pipe major of his tutor group (which was the top group outside the NZ Youth Band) and he led the group at the piping and drumming recital, also accompanied by a solo fiddler in one of the sets. At this workshop the top team of tutors encourage the students to enter the composition competition where the students are required to compose and submit a new piece to which they have just written. This is great experience for the students, but we are pleased to announce that Ben was announced as overall winner of the competition winning a new solo chanter. During the closing ceremony on the final day of the Summer School, Ben was announced as the recipient of a piping scholarship, gaining entry into next year’s Summer School. The week long camp in New Zealand is a great way for pipers and drummers to meet and play great music. This is a fantastic achievement - well done Ben!
