Deakin University are seeking parents of people with disability aged 4-17 to take part in a survey. The University is working in collaboration with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to research the needs of young people with disability in terms of physical activity. Their request: Can you help us build inclusive physical activity programs around Australia for all children? The National Disability Insurance Agency, in collaboration with Deakin University, invites parents/caregivers of children aged 4-17 with a disability and/or additional needs, as well as sporting coaches of mainstream and inclusive clubs, to complete an online survey about the benefits and barriers children experience when participating, or wanting to participate, in organised physical activity. To take part in the study, go to: http://www.allplaysportsanddance.org.au

Circlestretch

This is something us Speechies are always advocating that parents do to support robust language skills in your child. But what does it really mean? "Following the child’s lead simply refers to getting that emotional experience activated within the child so (s)he is motivated to interact with us". This article explains how to do exactly that.

Happily Family

A free online workshop delivered by the masters in the field. Having attended master workshops with Dr Daniel Siegel myself, I would highly recommend this to all the families with whom I work and everyone, in fact!

I've just learned that NDIS will now be rolling out mental health funding support for those individuals with chronic conditions. How wonderful is this? https://mhaustralia.org/general/mental-health-australia-national-disability-insurance-scheme-information-portal

https://www.dancingwiththeblackdog.com/its-okay-to-say/ It's okay to say you're suffering from mental health challenges. It's okay to seek support for this. I have, and I continue to do so whenever I need to. On top of this I seek reflective supervision. In doing so I develop my capacity to self-reflect (level 9 in DIR) . I can better understand why I reacted that way when that happened? When I can see how I respond to the world around me I can make choices about how I want to be; in better alignment with my core values. And in doing so I am better able to function as a therapist, a mother, a friend, a wife, and a member of my community. I am so thankful for the support my mentors and mental health specialists give to me. I am very pleased to learn about this campaign. I advocate that the taboo associated with mental health lifts. After all these difficulties are much more common than so many others and it' s normal to feel scared, depressed, overwhelmed, and anxious. We all experience these feelings at times. And by talking about them they pass ...until another one arrives. Warm regards, Tarsh

Social engagement. A video to describe what I mean when I am talking about engagement; an area of challenge for many of the children with whom I work. I would be very interested to hear what you think about this video. Please comment below.
