This poor Nintendo 64 had soda spilt in it a few years ago.. Fit this to your Version 12 Playstation 2 Slim console to protect it's optical drive when playing backup media (including movies). . DETAILS (it's a good read we promise!): . This is a sort of specialty item, it's only for one version of the PS2 Slim. It is recommended even if you don't have a modchip or FMCB! . In certain situations the mechanics controller can crash while communicating with the dvd controller, especially when dealing with bad media (cheap DvDr's or just badly scratched games). When this happens the reset button, which is connected to the mechanics controller, will stop responding and the only way to turn off the machine is to unplug the power jack. When the mechanics controller crashes, the dvd controller keeps sending a pulse train to the tracking and focus drivers which results in a steady voltage increase on both the tracking and the focus coils of the optical pickup (the "laser" block), in the consoles optical drive. When the voltage gets too high, one or both of the coils will burn out, rendering the optical drive non functional. In comes this this little slice of silicon heaven! This chip will constantly monitor the communication between the mechanics controller and the dvd controller. As soon as it detects a crash in the communication it will turn off the console to avoid any possible damage to the coils. ** Sony fixed this "bug" in later system revisions but only after threats of legal action by consumers.. You see this bug made playing back backed up DvD's on the system a risky thing and Sony also have business in the film industry.. But ah that's all speculation and I'm sure they are a good mob ;)
